124. First Call for Fall

First Call for Fall for an experiment in using different substrates in one quilt: Kona cotton, Oakshott and Essex linen.

The design was inspired by this logo.

The thing I love most about this quilt is that the design looks more complex than it actually is. Here is the block. I added the center square because there was just too much negative space in the logo.

Four blocks together. Can you see the "secret" now? It is a sashing strip with the addition of that dark block in the middle. Easy peasy.
This was a fun and very simple quilt to make.

And it was included in an issue of Modern Patchwork.

122. Wanderlust (mini)

Have you ever noticed the logo for Wayfair?

I turned it into a block, which was published in Quiltmaker's 100 blocks.

Then I made three more and made a mini quilt.

111. Lanyard

By 2014, I was doing more of my own designing and finding inspiration from lots of different sources.

Lanyard was a fun quilt to make.

The inspiration for this quilt came from a magazine layout for the flooring company, Flor. Because my idea was to copy their flooring tiles quite closely I wrote to ask for permission, which I was granted.

The phenomenal quilting was again done by Krista Withers.

I then submitted my quilt to Modern Patchwork Magazine and it was my first magazine publication.

109. Neon Ninja Star

Neon Ninja Star began as part of a block exchange among blogging friends. We each were in charge of a month. When it was our turn, we told the other members what kind of block we wanted and the fabric, and each of them made "our" block and sent it to us.

Notice that I used the same border as that of Colorbox--it's such a great border.

The block was based on booth upholstery fabric I noticed one time when Mark and I were eating at Chick-fil-A.

Lindsay Conner was one of my bee mates.  She suggested submitting a book proposal. And here is the result.

Lindsay did a wonderful job with this book. Whether you have wondered what bees are all about, would like to organize a bee, or just want to be a better bee member, the information is in this book.

I'm so happy to have been included in this group, and my quilt even made the cover--the second one from the bottom--it's called Neon Ninja Stars.

I might like the back nearly as much as the front.
