When Meghan Buchanan of Then Came June published her pattern, Everett's Star, and offered a kit, I bought it.
I loved the blue and black, with the shades of yellow that made the stars seem to glow.
Once I began making quilts for great-nieces and great-nephews, this seemed like it might be appropriate for Simon, who is college age and working hard at getting his EMT/paramedic license. I had already started making it when I asked his mother what kind of colors Simon liked. She said I needed to remember that he was color blind (I had forgotten) and really could only recognize blue and yellow!
I started making these blocks at a local quilting retreat with friends. The blocks turned out to be quite labor intensive, so it wasn't my favorite quilt to construct, but the end result was totally worthwhile. The pattern called for a pieced border but by the time I had finished all nine blocks I said, "nope!" and ended up using remaining fabric to make a simple solid border. I used a "starry" wideback for the backing.
