44. Calendar Girls (red and white block exchange quilt)

A group of friends decided to make a red and white block exchange quilt. Susan Harper chose the focus fabric.

When we got together for the block exchange, Chris Mullins took pictures of each person with their block and made a "Calendar Girls" calendar, based on a movie that was popular at the time.

I really loved the backing fabric I chose.

Back: Dia Dickie, Alicia Lotz, Stephanie Willems
Middle: Geena Stobbe, Maggie Harper, me, Lynette Simon, Chris Mullins
Front: Susan Harper, Lori Kleshold, Uni McAntee

Also, we each made an extra block and donated them to the NFC quilters. Dotty Warkentine made them into a king-sized quilt, which was sold at the 2006 MCC sale, purchased by Susan Harper.

Lots of good memories in this quilt. Funny story: If you know the story of the Calendar Girls movie, you know that each of the women posed nude for a calendar. Maggie thought it would be funny to tell my parents that I was indeed part of a Calendar Girls calendar, holding only a quilt block. I think for a moment they actually might have believed it...
