4. Denim Patchwork

This quilt was made for Aaron to take to college. It turned out to be too large for his bunk and too heavy, so we kept it on his bed at home.

This was made with a lot of Aaron's old jeans, and also old jeans collected from the church rummage sales. The backing is red and blue plaid flannel.

Interesting information: When Aaron was about 13 or 14, he spent $50 in birthday money on a pair of "Guess" shorts. I thought that was an outrageous amount of money (at that time) to spend on denim shorts, so I made sure that the pocket from that pair of shorts was in the very center of the quilt!

I sent this picture and an explanation to "Books on Tape" (back in the day when audible books were recorded on cassette tapes), as they were running a marketing campaign called "what do you do while listening to Books on Tape? They published the picture in the 1997 catalog--and I received five free rentals.

It was entered in the Big Fresno Fair in 1999 and received an honorable mention. Judge's comments:
"Nice workmanship. Good piecing technique."
