253. Weave

Quite awhile ago, I had purchased a calendar designed by Molly Lam of @tokodots, one of my favorite artists. I loved this design for the month of August, and I could totally envision a quilt based on it.

My first version was Sorbet (#241). It was only 40" x 40", and I always envisioned a larger version.

I had set aside this stack of fabrics for a different project, but decided it would be perfect for this larger quilt.

I decided to try an ombre effect going both directions: pink to rust in one direction, and lavender to burgundy in the other direction.

But then I decided that the four darkest colors in the vertical direction were just too brown, and changed them to shades of purple.

Too dark/brown.
So much better.
These blocks actually go together quite quickly. I used the burgundy blocks on the back.

Then it was off to Darby for quilting.

I'm very happy with the larger size and I would definitely make this one again.

My neighbor's tree was blooming and it was a great backdrop.

252. Squarevoiyant

Squarevoiyant is a pattern by Amanda of Quiltcakes. Last fall she posted a photo of her pattern done in some very soft colors. I realized I had a stack of wovens in much the same colors and decided they would be perfect.

I had the option of sewing it together without sashing--

--or with sashing. I'm glad I chose the sashing option. I'm happy with the ombre effect too.
I sent it to Darby, and we chose a cute flower design.
I haven't purchased much fabric lately, but one time I was at my LQS I found this cool fabric and bought the rest of the bolt. It turned out to be just perfect for this quilt!

251. Starfall

The names of the fabrics by Art Gallery all sound so yummy.

Starfall, a pattern by Then Came June and actually called Star Adventure, began with this lovely stack of solid fabrics that had been sitting on a shelf for awhile, and my favorite Liberty of London print of all time--Capel in mustard.

The pattern is basically the classic sawtooth star block.

I enjoyed making the different color combinations for the blocks--three colors in each block. Once they were all done and on the design wall, I hated this one and it got voted off. You can see why, right?

I sewed all the leftovers together in strips for the backing.
And then I sent it off to Darby for quilting.
For some reason, when I photographed it in the backyard, I hung it up sideways, and then was too lazy to turn it around.

The best photos were taken across the street on my neighbor's awesome truck, affectionately named Mater by the grandkids.

A fun little addition: At the time of this writing, I will be showing some quilts at the local Art Hop in April 2024. The Fresno Arts Council posted this on social media, a fun advertisement (even with my name spelled incorrectly--haha).
