Taking Notes came about because of three very simple things: I had a lot of texty fabric in my stash, I noticed a 5x7 yellow note pad and it inspired a simple block, and Charlotte was entering junior high.
I gathered all the texty fabric, especially those that looked like actual hand-drawn doodles, and began making blocks.
I reserved space for two blocks with notes written by me and Christa.
The fabric between each block also looked like lined notebook paper, including the margin lines on the left side--one of my favorite details. Because I think junior high girls do a lot of doodling, including flowers, I chose a quilting design of fun flowers.
For the photo op, Mark and I went to our local Office Max. Photographing quilts in a public place never embarrasses me any longer. I always ask for permission and have never had anyone say no. They either look confused and have no idea what they are even saying "yes" to or don't care. Sometimes someone will ask questions, mostly "did you make that??"
I added a black border on the top so the quilt looked like a giant notepad.
Some fabric from Cheryl Arkison's Tag line of fabric had a list of names, including Charlotte, which I circled and added a pink heart.
And my friend, Molly Lam, had some colorful fabric with good advice.
I was a whiz at shorthand in high school. And I was so happy when Kim Kight came out with a line called Steno Pool. I pieced some fun words into the label.Designed by: Me
