136. Under the Big Top

Under the Big Top was a sampler designed by Sew Kind of Wonderful and I used some of my favorite Robert Kaufman textured Kona cotton (Dimensions)--I wish I could still get some and that they had released it in a wider range of colors.

This quilt is solely responsible for my love affair of photographing quilts with classic cars and trucks.

By pure chance, I saw a fabulous yellow Studebaker pickup in a parking lot, the very same color as the yellow block in the lower left corner. I was completely smitten so I left my business card in the window, hoping that the owner would contact me and let me take a few photos.

The pickup turned out to be owned by a wonderful man who is a retired local bakery owner.  He met me at the park a few weeks later--and had already driven around and located the perfect location.

When I decided to publish my first quilt calendar, Quilts and Classics, this was the January combination.

Mark's brother, Pete, and his wife Jane, were at our house for Thanksgiving 2021. I've been gifting some of my quilts and this was the one they chose. I'm so happy that it lives in Idaho with them.
